Statement of Belief

One of the defining traits of our school is a multi-denominational student body. JECS families represent more than forty churches, and we sometimes differ in areas of faith and practice. But we all agree on the essentials of the Christian faith as spelled out in the following Statement of Belief.

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative, inerrant Word of God for faith and practice. (II Timothy 3:15-16, II Peter 1:21, John 17:7-8, Deut 4:2, Matthew 24:35)
  • We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Deut 6:4, Deut 4:35, Isaiah 44:6, Matthew 28:19, John 10:30, I John 5:20); Plurality of God (us/our): Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3:22; Jesus is God- Titus 2:13, John 1:1; Holy Spirit is God- 2 Corinthians 3:17-18.
  • We believe in the deity of Christ (John 10:36-38); His virgin birth (Isaiah 7:14, Matthew 1:23, Luke 1:35); His sinless life (Hebrews 4:14-16, Hebrews 7:26-28); His miracles (Matthew 4:23-25, Mark 6:56); His vicarious and atoning death ( Isaiah 53:4-5, II Corinthians 5:21, Romans 4:5, I John 2:2, I John 4:10, Ephesians 1:7, Hebrews 2:9); His resurrection (John 11:25-27, I Corinthians 15:3-4); His ascension to the right hand of the Father (Mark 16:19); His personal return in power and glory (Acts 1:11, Revelation 19:11)
  • We believe in the absolute necessity of regeneration by the Holy Spirit for salvation because of the exceeding sinfulness of human nature; and that believers are justified on the single ground of faith in the shed blood of Christ and that only by God's grace and through faith alone we are saved. (John 3:16-19, John 5:24, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:8-9, Ephesians 2:8-10, Titus 3:5)
  • We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; the saved to everlasting life and the lost to eternal judgment. (John 5:28-29)
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 8:9, I Corinthians 12:12-13, Galatians 3:26-28)
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (Romans 8:13-14, I Corinthians 3:16, I Corinthians 6:19-20, Ephesians 4:30, 5:18)
  • We believe that prayer is the vital communication between God and man. Through prayer, God's power and grace are made available to the believer. (Philippians 4:6-7, Matthew 6:9-15)
  • We believe Christ has established the church and is its head. Individuals are to be related to a local church for Christian worship, instruction, fellowship and service. (Ephesians 5:23; Hebrews 10:24-25)
  • We believe that homosexuality is a sinful lifestyle choice. (Romans 1:18-27) Therefore, while still loving the individual, we stand firmly against the sin; knowing that our Christ has crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires (Galatians 5:19-25) and has made us a new creation. (I Corinthians 5:16-21)
